I can't tell you how often I got the "you're giving too much homework" spiel...and more often than not it came from administrators, not parents. Also got the "it's too difficult for their grade-level comprehension."
I bet you saw a lot. I imagine it's worse now? Kids in my classes complained but I can't remember parents complaining. It was a small school though, so maybe parents didn't want to rock the boat.
I was fortunate to spend most of my teaching career in a district that highly valued education. Parents were generally supportive and most students didn't complain too much...certainly no more than you would expect. But I guarantee if a parent raised an issue the administration would not have your back.

Well thank you! Most people don't like the sound of their own voice and I'm the same. It sounds very different from what I think it should.
