It's not just that the Algo is blessing a certain behavior. It's also pruning all other behavior that doesn't need it. It now owns the job you know how to do, a role that doesn't truly need the Algo to do your job for you and yet it will do it anyway, so it will encourage you to find a replacement job to feed it. At least until it can do that job too.

I've been preaching the Dead Internet Theory for a decade now. It will be nothing but the Algo creating content for the Algo, and it's more sterile in that way with each passing day.

What is the Dead Internet Theory? Machines talking to machines?

Pretty much. Bots making content to be read by bots. Now it's AI making content for AI to ingest or rank. There are a growing number of articles (written by humans?) detailing it online.

This was inevitable with the rise of SEO-optimization content creation software. It attempted to game the algorithm, forcing content creators to conform to what it guessed would be perfect keyword phrases and density.

These used humans as a midpoint. But once ChatGPT and other generative AI came along, the human became superfluous.

As a heavy Internet user, I am flabbergasted at the rapid degradation of content and the proliferation of garbage commerce pages and incomprehensible "informational" pages that are both generative AI created AND optimized for SEO. It's a death spiral.
